ITFoK to begin in Thrissur on January 20
The tenth edition of the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK), organised by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, will be held from January 20 to 29.
‘Theatre for the marginalised’ is the theme of this edition of the festival. Education Minister C. Ravindranath will inaugurate the festival on January 20.
In all, 32 plays by both national and international theatre groups will be staged at the festival.
International theatre groups from countries such as Iran, Palestine, Egypt, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Georgia, England, Singapore, and Switzerland will take part.
A play by Mumbai-based Kranti Foundation in the form of a dialogue will be a highlight of the festival. It is about the problems faced by children of sex workers in Mumbai, according to akademi secretary N. Radhakrishnan Nair.
Five Malayalam plays will be staged at the festival. Seminars, photo exhibitions, music programmes, and traditional art forms will also be part of the festival.
Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, School of Drama, Jawahar Bhalabhavan, Ramanilayam, and Palace Ground will be the venues of the festival. A theatre training camp for transgender community will be held at the School of Drama.
