Visalandha Mahasabha activists hoisted a black flag at the Gandhi statue before Kurnool Collectorate on Saturday and protested against Centre’s denial of Special Category Status to the State and the non-implementation of the post-bifurcation promises.

Demanding a special package to the backward Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra regions, Mahasabha president N. Chakravarthi, secretaries Srinivasa Reddy, Jagadeesh and Karunakar, BC, SC, ST, Minority Student Federation president J. Lakshmi Narasimha and Principal Association president Chennaiah accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of betraying the State.

Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra regions ought to have got ₹24,350 crore towards special package, but the 13 districts in the State got only ₹1,050 crore so far, they said. They charged the Central government with showing step-motherly attitude towards Andhra Pradesh. The IIIT was sanctioned ₹20 crore so far as against an estimate of ₹125 crore and the Central university and steel plant in Kadapa never happened, they said.
