A rally to create awareness on organ donation and motivate people to sign up for it was organised here by Manipal Hospitals, Salem, in association with the Police Department, Dharmapuri.
Flagging off the rally, B. Gangadhar, Superintendent of Police, said the district police were happy to lend support for a noble cause. “A second chance at life through organ transplant is a miracle,” he added.
Hepatologist, Manipal Hospitals, said, “despite major advances in medical science, organ transplant is the only alternative in certain cases to save life. While organ transplant is popular in the west, India has a long way to go.” According to him, dissemination of information and change of mindset through educating people on organ donation is the key to take this on a large scale.
Puneet Mehta, Unit Head, Manipal Hospitals, said the donation could save up to 8 individuals.
