There are two battles that will be fought in this tie. One for a top four spot and the other for a stake for the League. After Atletico Madrid’s unprecedented win to take the league crown last year, normal services has resumed as the battle of supremacy has been wrestled back by the two Spanish giants. Real Madrid and Barcelona are sitting pretty at the top of the table and only two points separate the arch-rivals.
Elsewhere, only four points separate Ateltico Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla, the triumvirate who are regulars at this end of the table. The league champions lie at the third spot while Valencia are in fourth, just one point behind them. A defeat would mean that the race for the Champions League spot opens up again.
Barcelona have been some form of late. Luis Suarez in particular has been playing in a different orbit, leading the side’s League and Champions League pursuit. After demolishing Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, he is the players to watch out for. Lionel Messi may well walk away with all the plaudits at the end of the game though. The Argentine genius is one shy of the 400-goal mark.
