The new contractor will be brought in to finish work on a portion of the track between the stations, AG-DMS and Thousand Lights
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has decided to engage a new contractor for the finishing work in a section of Anna Salai, as the work by the present contractor is tardy.
Kalindee Rail Nirman Engineers Limited has been laying tracks for many months on Anna Salai between AG-DMS and Chennai Central Metro.
Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited said in a portion of the stretch from AG-DMS to Thousand Lights a new contractor will be roped in to carry out the finishing work.
“We are looking to operationalise the stretch between AG-DMS and Chennai Central before the end of this year. If that has to happen, the contractors should finish work quickly. As Kalindee Rail Nirman finishes laying tracks, there will be some work like laying concrete, which can be done by a new firm. We have already called for tenders for the finishing works from AG-DMS to Thousand Lights,” a CMRL official said.
But an official of Kalindee Nirman denied the delay in work and said they were proceeding as fast as possible. “There is delay in CMRL handing over stations like LIC and Thousand Lights to us; only if they finish civil work and allow us to start, can we finish it on time,” he added.
If the stretch between AG-DMS and Chennai Central becomes operational, it will be an important link and will help commuters from areas like Little Mount and Saidapet to reach Chennai Central Metro easily.
