Coimbatore: One more person is suspected to have died of dengue at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Thursday. Two patients died of fever the same day, said hospital officials. The number of deaths due to viral hemorrhagic fever too has been on the increase in the district. Many patients' families have begun reaching out on social media asking for blood.

Thenmozhi, 22, mother of a 10-month-old child, residing at Sowripalayam, died of bleeding from the mouth, eyes and nose at 11.40 pm on Thursday. Health department officials said the woman had been suffering from fever for the past six days and was admitted to the Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. "She was shifted to the government hospital on Monday when her condition deteriorated. She tested positive for dengue. She died of bleeding and multi-organ failure," said a senior GH doctor.

With government hospital authorities confirming that the woman tested positive for dengue, this is possibly the eighth death due to the virus. The director of public health confirmed that as on Thursday, there had been seven deaths due to dengue and another 20 deaths due to fever are under investigation.
