Erode district with 97.97 per cent pass has slipped to fourth position this time in terms of overall pass percentage in SSLC from the first spot consecutively in 2015 and 2016.
The overall pass percentage was 98.48 last year and 98.04 the previous year. This year, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram districts surpassed Erode with 98.55, 98.17, and 98.16 percentages respectively.
Out of 26920 candidates in Erode district, 26373 passed the examinations. Girls fared better with an overall pass percentage of 98.53 compared to 97.42 by boys.
A total of 204 schools, including 83 government high schools secured all pass. As many as 11,550 students of government schools passed in the examinations (97.22%).
Subject wise, the overall performance was the highest in science at 99.93 % and lowest in mathematics: 98.50 %.
With a total of 498 out of 500, B. Reshma, a student of Kongu Kalvinilayam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Rangampalayam, figured among toppers in the State. There was no authentic information about other individual performers.
Officials said they had no mandate to gather information about individual achievements.
