The Congress on Thursday released a photograph of former BJP MP Nana Patole with party president Rahul Gandhi and said he had formally joined the party.
Congress’ general secretary in-charge for Maharashtra, Mohan Prakash, told The Hindu that Mr. Patole was “interested in the issues that Rahul Gandhiji has been talking about.”
Mr. Patole, while being a ruling party MP, had made headlines after he criticised the Modi government for its poor handling of the agrarian crisis. Mr. Patole had won the Bhandara-Gondiya seat in Maharashtra by defeating NCP leader Praful Patel.
“Yes, I have joined the Congress. I will take whatever responsibility it gives me,” Mr. Patole said.
