SS Rajamouli exclusively spoke on India Today TV on Baahubali 2 Karnataka row.
Even as popular actor Sathyaraj, who plays Kattapa in Baahubali, has issued an apology over his comments on Cauvery water row, is it too little, too late? India Today TV spoke to SS Rajamouli and the director of the magnum opus hopes that film will be allowed in Karnataka.
"Cauvery issue is very sensitive. We are no way connected to issue. Sathyaraj made the comment nine years ago, and stalling the film is not right. After my appeal, many Kannadigas are showing their support. They are angered but people want to see the film. We are a democracy. If maximum number of people want the film to be released, then it should", said SS Rajamouli to India Today TV.
Interestingly, Sathyaraj, who is being accused of making derogatory remarks against Kannadigas in Cauvery water row 9 years back, has seen at least 30 of his films release in Karnataka without a controversy. The fringe groups opposing the actor didn't raise their voice when the first part of Baahubali was released in 2015.
Karnataka is a big market for the production house which has also dubbed Baahubali in Kannada for greater reach.
"I would like to talk about it but when tempers are not high as each and every word can be taken into different meaning. The reason why we kept quiet for so long is because we don't know whether me speaking on the issue will add more fuel to the fire or douse the fire. It is such a sensitive issue. I made the appeal on behalf of my producers", said SS Rajamouli.
Interestingly when questioned over whether Rajamouli would take a change with Sathyaraj again, he ducked the question with a smile, "You are adding fuel to fire".
It was only this afternoon that Sathyaraj apologised for his anti-Kannada comments, and asked the Kannadigas to not stall the release of Baahubali 2. On Thursday, Rajamouli had requested the Kannadigas to give Baahubali: The Conclusion as much love and affection as the first film. He went on to add that people shouldn't miss out on the opportunity to watch the film due to Sathyaraj's comments.
