Following heavy rains in the catchment area of Hemavati, the water level in the reservoir at Gorur near Hassan has been increasing. As on Wednesday morning, the water level stood at 2,888.54 ft against the full reservoir level of 2,922 ft. Last year on this day, the water level stood at 2,853.23 ft.
The inflow on Tuesday was at the rate of 37,946 cusecs, while the inflow on this day last year was only at the rate of 819 cusecs. The live storage as on Wednesday morning was 8.85 tmc. Last year on this day, the live storage was zero. The maximum storage capacity of the reservoir is 37.103 tmc.
Hassan district received an average of 14 mm of rainfall on Tuesday against the normal of 4 mm. Many parts of Sakleshpur, Alur, Belur, and Arkalgud taluks received heavy rainfall. The district’s highest rainfall of 112 mm was registered at Heggadde in Sakleshpur taluk on the day. Chikkamagaluru district also received widespread rainfall on the day. The average rainfall recorded in the district was 42 mm against the normal of 8 mm. Haranduru in Koppa received the highest rainfall of 241 mm.
Farmers, worried about a dip in the yield caused by heavy rains, are hoping for no-rain days so that they could take measures to safeguard their crops.
