Making use of the art form of Yakshagana and Tulu idioms, the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee in Dakshina Kannada has circulated video clippings and jingles on social media to motivate people to vote in the Assembly elections.
In a video clipping whose audio is also being circulated as a jingle, Patla Satish Shetty, a Yakshagana bhagavatha of Tenku Thittu school, sings a song composed for the election purposes in Yakshagana style and urges people not to miss voting. The song Habba Bantu Habba … describes election as a festival of democracy and appeals to citizens to vote without yielding to any enticement.
Naveen D. Padil, a comedy star of Tulu theatre and cinema, has been featured in one of the video clippings. He asks voters, in Tulu, not to give any excuse for not voting. Tulu comedy star and director Devdas Kapikad and magician Kudroli Ganesh too have played along. Some of the hoardings of the committee have images of Yakshagana characters inviting voters to polling stations.
