He chronicled the Telangana Armed Struggle
Veteran of Telangana Armed Struggle and widely remembered as the lensman who captured the struggle, Pottabathini Dasharath Kumar, 87, died in Hyderabad on Tuesday after a brief illness.
Born in Chityala mandal, he moved to Nalgonda for livelihood prospects and set up the Ravi Photo Studio in the Prakasam Bazar here. He was also a member of the Praja Natya Mandali, the people’s theatre and took part in Burra Katha and public skits motivating the youth of the day for the struggle. Several leaders in the town and members of the photographers’ fraternity expressed their condolences and recollected their association with Dasharath Kumar.
A recipient of several national and international awards in photography, his best pieces were on display for public view in Ravindra Bharathi, and several monochromes can still be found on the walls in the district Collectorate.
Family sources said his body was being moved to Nalgonda for the last rites to be held on Wednesday morning.
