The market made a solid opening on as the benchmark Sensex gained taking support from domestic investors, extending its Thursday’s rally on the back of a firm Asian trend. Moreover, an appreciating rupee brought more cheer. The 30-share had rallied 245.11 points in the previous session. Brokers said increased buying by domestic financial institutions amid a firming trend in the Asian region gave investors the confidence.
10.36am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex trades higher by 37 points, or 0.14%, to 26,915, while the Nifty 50 rises 13 points, or 0.16%, to 8,287.
10.00am: IT stocks trade lower ahead of the December quarter earnings of TCS and Infosys Ltd on 12 January and 13 January, respectively. TCS Ltd shares fall 1.1%, Infosys Ltd shares 1%, Wipro 0.3%, HCL Technologies Ltd 1.1%, Tech Mahindra Ltd fell 0.7%.
9.45am: Basmati rice shares were trading higher. LT Foods Ltd shares rise 3.3%, KRBL Ltd shares rise 3.3%, Kohinoor Foods Ltd shares rise 8.1% and Chaman Lal Setia Exports Ltd shares rise 5.8%.
9.33am: Piramal Enterprises Ltd shares rise 2.63% to trade at Rs1,700 against the previous session’s closing of Rs1,656.50 after it announced that its subsidiary Piramal Finance Ltd will apply to the National Housing Bank (NHB) to incorporate a housing finance company.
9.30am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 59 points, or 0.22%, to 26,937, while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) is up 24 points, or 0.29%, to 8,298.
9.15am: The home currency opened at 67.87 against the dollar . At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 67.82 per dollar, up 0.21% from its previous close of 67.96. Year to date, it gained 0.1%.
9.10am: The 10-year bond yield was trading at 6.364%, compared to Thursday’s close of 6.387%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions. Tea & Coffee Companies trading higher. Tata Coffee Ltd shares rise 1.1%, Harrisons Malayalam Ltd shares rise 2.6%, Jay Shree Tea & Industries Ltd shares rise 2.1%, Mcleod Russel India shares rise 2%, Andrew Yule & Company Ltd shares rise 3.4%, Tata Global Beverages Ltd shares rise 1%, Bombay Burmah Trading Corp. Ltd shares rise 1%.
9.05am: Most of the Asian currencies were trading lower. China offshore was down 0.52%, Japanese yen 0.43%, China renminbi 0.29%, South Korean won 0.23%, Singapore dollar 0.21% and Thai baht 0.07%. However, Malaysian ringgit was up 0.26%, Indonesian rupiah 0.21%, Philippines peso 0.15%.
