TomTom today launched its range of GPS sport watches in India. TomTom has partnered with Flipkart to introduce four GPS watches, which are primarily categorised under TomTom Runner and TomTom Multi-Sport priced at Rs 12,999 aand Rs 15,499 respectively. The cardio version of both TomTom Runner and TomTom Multi-Sport features an in-built heart rate monitor and cost Rs 20,999 and Rs 23,499 respectively.
TomTom sport watches are primarily aimed at althetes who want to track minute performance details and work on their heart rate. “It is not a smartwatch. Our range of watches is primarily for fitness enthusiasts who would want to use graphical training tools and access real-time information to help achieve their fitness goals,” said Andrew Cooper, SVP sales APAC, TomTom.
The basic difference between TomTom Runner and TomTom Multi-Sport is that the former is suited for runners while the Multi-Sport version caters to cyclists, runner and swimmers. All the four watches are waterproof (up to 50 mts/5ATM) and provides around 8 to 10 hours of battery life on GPS and heart rate mode. On standby, the battery can last for around a month.
The GPS watches comes with a charging dock and takes around three hours to get fully charged. It connects to smartphones via Bluetooth and TomTom MySports app, which is available on Android and iOS only. The new watches also feature TomTom’s Graphical Training Partner which provides real-time performance information. All the watches sports a LED black and white display screen with one-button control.
While the company feels that there are enough takers of GPS fitness watches in India, it would be interesting to see how the market reacts. Given the trend, buyers might be more inclined towards investing in smartwatches but TomTom feels otherwise, and says that both are separate product categories altogether.
