Non-biodegradable waste will be handed over to scrap merchants

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja has formally launched the district-level pre-monsoon cleaning drive.

She marked the launch of the programme by handing over a kit of non-biodegradable waste from a group of Kudumbasree workers to Kerala Scrap Merchants Association (KSMA) district president Muhammed Asif at the Chala Government Model High School on Thursday.

Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.K. Prasanth presided over the function. Health standing committee chairman K. Sreekumar flagged off vehicles that will be utilised for waste collection.

The cleaning drive, which will get under way on May 21, will involve the Green Army and Kudumbasree workers deployed to collect non-biodegradable waste, which will be handed over to the KSMA. The garbage will be collected from 12 points across the district, according to an official release.

Ward councillor S.K.P. Ramesh, Haritha Keralam Mission coordinator D. Humayun, Suchitwa Mission coordinator R. Renjith, and KSMA office-bearer S. Murugan were present on the occasion.
