New textbooks to be made available by the end of April
School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan handed over the revamped syllabus for Classes 1 and 9 for State Board schools to the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation here on Wednesday.
“As part of the first phase towards bringing out the revamped syllabus to be implemented for the 2018-19 academic year, a CD with the syllabus both in English and Tamil has been handed over. The revamped syllabus for classes 6 and 11 too will be handed over within the next 15 days,” said Mr. Sengottaiyan.
The Education Department has said that the new textbooks will be made available to the students by the end of April.
The curriculum framework committee will bring out textbooks in 26 subjects for the students of science and commerce streams in Class 11. As the polytechnic syllabus has also undergone a change, new books in 12 subjects will be published.
The proposed revamp of the curriculum for all classes in the State Board stream was announced in 2017 and work on the same began in July, with a series of seminars and meetings by the Tamil Nadu Curriculum Framework Committee with academicians, teachers and subject experts from across the country.
In November, a draft of the revamped syllabus for all classes was released online and feedback had been invited on the same. The new curriculum for classes 1,6,9 and 11 will be implemented in the 2018-19 academic year in phases.
