A third revenue division with Arni as headquarters was inaugurated in Tiruvannamalai district. The two existing revenue divisions are Tiruvannamalai and Cheyyar.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated the new division through videoconferencing from Chennai on Friday, according to a release.
Mr. Palaniswami, during the birth centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran organised on July 29, 2017 in Tiruvannamalai, announced that a third division would be formed with Arni as the headquarters.
It would comprise Arni, Polur and Kalasapakkam taluks and the newly created Jamunamarathur taluk.
The third division was created to improve administration and serve people better.
The new Jamunamarathur taluk was also inaugurated on the occasion. In the last seven years, five new taluks have been created in the district – Kalasapakkam, Vembakkam, Chetpet, Kilpennathur and Jamunamarathur. With this, the district has a total of 12 taluks, a press release said.
