BHUBANESWAR: Two more persons died of influenza A (H1N1) raising the death toll to three in the state so far. Thirteen more tested positive for swine flu, taking the total number of positive cases to 59.
On Tuesday, a 42-year-old woman died at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. She was admitted to a private hospital on August 5 and was later shifted to SCB when she became critical on Monday evening, an official source said.
The other deceased, a 48-year-old woman, was admitted to a private hospital on July 29. "She died when her relatives were shifting her to another hospital against the doctor's advice," a government statement said. Three days ago, on August 5, a 53-year-old man had died of swine flu.
Bikash Patnaik, nodal officer, integrated diseases surveillance cell, said 38 patients have been admitted to various hospitals in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. "Around 15 of them are from Bhubaneswar. So far, swab samples of 230 patients have been tested at the Regional Medical Research Centre this year," Patnaik said. Director public health, J K Tripathy, said awareness is key to prevent the spread and early treatment of the disease. "Dos and don'ts have been issued to public and healthcare institutions. The situation is being monitored and reviewed regularly," Tripathy said.
