MUMBAI: A key witness, who is a common friend of actor Preity Zinta and industrialist Ness Wadia, told cops on Thursday that he saw Ness drag Zinta.
The witness, Jai Kanojia, said he was unable to hear any conversation between the two due to the commotion at the Garware Pavilion (where the alleged incident took place).
Kanojia is the ninth witness whose statement was taken down. "We plan to record the statements of one Parul Khanna, journalist Shailesh Gupta, the COO of Kings XI Punjab, Fraser Castellino, and Tara (identified only by her first name) who were present at the Garware Pavilion (where the alleged incident took place). Zinta had invited Khanna and Gupta for the IPL match," said a senior police officer.
In her June 13 FIR, Zinta had alleged that Ness, her former boyfriend of eight years and co-owner of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, had humiliated, abused and threatened her at a match on May 30 at Wankhede stadium.
The police plan to question on Ness on Sunday or Monday after verifying statements of all witnesses, said sources. Cops are trying to get each and every detail that could be part of the evidence, some officials also speculated that the case could be settled mutually.
The police have done a spot panchnama at the stadium and are compiling reports. Meanwhile, investigators have sent an email to one of the witnesses—Jean, an Australian national—who Zinta had invited.
