Decision emerges from party meet chaired by Jagan

A crucial meeting of the YSR Congress Party (YCP) presided by party president and Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at Peddakonduru here on Monday decided to scale up their agitation for the Special Category Status (SCS) all over the State and finally organise a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on March 5.

At the same time, the YCP also decided to expose what they described as the failures of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the ruling Telugu Desam Party’s Union Ministers and MPs at the national level in getting the Centre to fulfil the bifurcation promises.

The crucial meeting of the YCP’s important leaders was held at Mr. Jagan’s padayatra camp at Peddakonduru village in Udayagiri area here after the completion of the day’s yatra to discuss the plan of action in the wake of strong people’s reactions over lack of good allocations in the Union Budget.

Party general secretaries Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and Dharmana Prasada Rao, MPs V. Varaprasada Rao and P. Mithun Reddy, MLAs, regional coordinators and others were present.

On March 3, Mr. Jagan will flag off the team of MPs and other leaders who will take part in the Delhi protest.

The party cadre were asked to get ready and launch protest programmes to be held at all district collectorates on March 1.

Mr. Karunakar Reddy said they would go to the people with the slogan that the SCS was the “right of AP people and special package was totally unacceptable”. He said their party MPs were ready to resign for the cause of achieving the SCS.

The YSRCP leaders felt that there was a necessity to send the message across to the people more effectively that AP had lost the SCS status because of the negligence of the TDP which did not bring adequate pressure on the Central government regardless of the fact that its MPs had been enjoying positions as Union Ministers in the past four years.

Earlier, YSRCP State general secretary Dharmana Prasada Rao questioned why the Chief Minister was continuing to maintain silence while there had been strong public reactions from all sections to the denial of the SCS and also lack of expected financial support to the fledgling State.

On the 85th day of Praja Sankalpa Padayatra, Mr. Jagan covered Anantapuram, Siddana Kondur, Parrikota, Ayyapureddypalem and Peddakonduru.
