Grameena Coolie Karmikara Sanghatane, a forum of rural labourers, launched an indefinite fast at Tipu Sultan garden, near the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday, in support of their demands.

The activists alleged that issues pertaining to the public distribution system (PDS) and pension for rural labourers had not been addressed despite State-wide protests in last December and discussion with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

“The hunger strike became inevitable as the government did not respond to our woes,” Abhay Singh, leader of GCKS, said.
